Propellor by Ham Darroch: a conversation with Anthony Oates

ANU Alumni and Canberra based artist Ham Darroch speaks with Drill Hall Gallery Curator Tony Oates about his current exhibition Propeller.

Ham Darroch’s exhibition Propeller launched the Drill Hall’s 2020 program with a dynamic ensemble of colour, geometry and object based form. In his paintings and sculptures Darroch investigates the visual traditions of hard edge abstraction developed in the 1960s and 70s. His work evokes a strong sense of the enigmatic conceptualism of Marcel Duchamp and makes wide ranging references to works by Australian and international modern and pre-modern artists.

The Drill Hall Gallery acknowledges the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, the traditional custodians of the Canberra region, and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.
