Past Exhibition John Nixon: Works on paper

Since the 1970s John Nixon has explored the legacy of non-objective art and geometric abstraction. Inspired by the twentieth-century constructivists as well as by minimal and conceptual art of the 1960s and ‘70s, those affiliations have never hindered Nixon’s eclectic, speculative approach, nor the spirit of casual playfulness that is especially evident in his works on paper.

This exhibition celebrates John Nixon’s recent donation to the ANU Art Collection of 75 works on paper, dating from 1986 to 2015. Included in the exhibition are a number of early woodblock prints and etchings, ink paintings, drawings, more recent colour swatch collages, found paper drawings and cardboard assemblage paintings.
