This long overdue survey of Liz Coats’s art spans more than thirty years and revealed a striking consistency of approach.

‘My embrace of organic detail reflects a spirit of inclusiveness in a way that I believe brings an emphatic and humanist quality to the structural formalities of my process,’ she says.

From the beginning, her work has explored the materialisation and perception of colour and light and has demonstrated an integrity of purpose and a highly refined, unifying vision. In this, her thoughtful engagement with the canon of abstraction is ever implicit.

This exhibition was curated by Tony Oates. Liz Coats completed her doctorate with the ANU School of Art and Design which is celebrating its fortieth year in 2017.
