A ‘conjunction’ is a connective particle hinging two or more ideas; it may act as a fulcrum between concepts, offering renewed meaning, contributing to a clearer understanding or subverting an initial impetus.

Through a curated selection of works from the Australian National University Art Collection, Conjunction creates a generative dialogue, joining artworks from different art historical periods, social and cultural contexts. From the ancient to the modern and contemporary, through these compelling stories of convergence and divergence, the sacred and the profane, a picture of our evolving culture is revealed.

In celebrating the Art Collection, Conjunction also celebrates the culture of the Drill Hall Gallery – a culture of visual engagement that brings people together in dialogue through the catalytic nature of art.

Curated by Tony Oates and Oscar Capezio.
