THE SELFISH GIANT, ILLUSTRATED BY PAUL SUMMERFIELD
A UNIQUE INTERPRETATION OF OSCAR WILDE’S FAIRY TALE, WITH A HAND-MADE ARTIST BOOK AND LIMITED EDITION PRINT SERIES
Prolific Canberra artist Paul Summerfield launches a new collection of beautiful illustrations based on Oscar Wilde’s striking fairy tale, The Selfish Giant. This collection of works culminates in a hand-made artist book that will be launched as a pop up exhibition at the The Drill Hall Gallery this month.
The exhibition features twenty striking illustrations which will be on display from the 31st of July to the 9th of August. A limited number of the hand-made books will be made to order upon inquiry.
Paul has worked for the past 2 years on his unique interpretation of The Selfish Giant, which has a rich history of published versions from all over the world. This unique and colourful interpretation adds to the collection with flair.
“I have explored the story with a new pallet of colour, emotion and textural botany ” says Summerfield.
“I created a huge library of digitally illustrated plants which I have woven into the works and this gave me a lot of freedom when producing the final artwork”
Paul Summerfield’s vibrant artworks have been exhibited in Canberra since 2008, with Summerfield building a reputation for bespoke commissioned artwork, and pushing the boundaries of digital medium.
The series of works have found a permanent home in the adolescent’s ward in the Canberra hospital, with two large murals commissioned in 2014
All are welcome at the exhibition’s official opening at 5-7pm on Friday 31 July, 2015.
