Terence Maloon OAM
Congratulations to esteemed Drill Hall Alumni Terence Maloon who has been awarded a 2025 Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the museums and galleries sector.
Terence was the Director of the Drill Hall Gallery for 10 years (2014–2024). He was formerly Senior Curator of Special Exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, where he organised major exhibitions by Cézanne, Picasso and Pissarro, as well as ‘Paths to Abstraction 1867–1917’ (2011). He was the senior art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald (1982–1987). Terence worked as an art critic, writer and lecturer in London (1974–1980) and in Sydney (from 1980). Along with writing and curatorial projects he is currently engaged with the Drill Hall Lecture Series ‘The 50 years that changed painting 1867–1917′. Medal of the Order of Australia is a fitting acknowledgement of the extent of his curatorial, literary and socially enriching contributions to the arts and broader communities.
The Drill Hall Gallery acknowledges the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, the traditional custodians of the Canberra region, and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.
