Drill Hall Playlist #8: AJ America

A playlist complied by Drill Hall favourite, AJ America: singer, conductor and creative producer and Artistic Director of Luminescence Chamber Singers and Children’s Choir.

AJ is a singer, conductor and creative producer. She is the Artistic Director of Luminescence Chamber Singers and Children’s Choir, and also performs regularly as a soloist and a consort singer, including with Luminescence (Canberra), the Choir of St James King St (Sydney), Cantillation (Pinchgut Opera, Sydney), and Vox Plexus (Melbourne). She is a regular collaborator with pianist Ella Luhtasaari, and a member of Ampleya – a multimedia collaboration with pianist/composer Rasa Daukus and visual artist Genevieve Swifte. In recent years, AJ has served as the Musical Director of Canberra Community Chorale, the ANU School of Music H-Course Vocal Ensemble, and the Director of Choirs at Radford College.

“This is an eclectic mix of some of my favourite music, from little known vocal music from the 15th Century (John Browne’s Start Mater) and Debussy to pop artists like Sufjan Stevens. I’ve included some of my favourite Australian music, including music by Paul Stanhope, Brett Dean, Katie Noonan, the Brodsky Quartet, and some young Aussie musicians that deserve some more attention, like W.M.N and Boroky.”

The Drill Hall Gallery acknowledges the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, the traditional custodians of the Canberra region, and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.
