Lecture
A lecture in two parts by Terence Maloon, Director of the Drill Hall Gallery
Touring through Paris of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the lecture opens on the development of the city’s railway stations and the resulting inevitable flood of diverse people, with disposable income and a hankering for diversion into the city. Observing Paris through the eyes of artists and writers, Pissarro, Monet, Benjamin, Balzac and Debord, we travel through the architecture, bustle and excitement of socially charged Paris discovering its history seeped in creativity, industrialisation and revolt.
