James Erskine is best known as Chairman of Sports & Entertainment Ltd, an agency which manages international celebrities and superstars of the sporting and entertainment worlds. He is less well known for being an outstanding collector of contemporary art, with an eye for superlative works, not always by highly publicized names, sometimes acquired well before the artist achieves just recognition by the art market.

In 2003 James Erskine established the Liverpool Street Gallery in Sydney in order to increase his engagement with and commitment to living artists.

This selection of Australian works from the James and Jacqui Erskine collection testifies to a breadth of taste and confidence of judgement: it includes paintings by Lloyd Rees, Kevin Connor, Brian Blanchflower, Emily Kngwarreye, Ildiko Kovacs, Chris Langois, Rosalie Gascoigne, Karl Wiebke, Allan Mitelman, John Olsen, George Tjangurrayi, Aida Tomescu, David Serisier, Prince of Wales, Lucy Culliton, and Virginia Coventry, among others.

This is the first time that such a large portion of the invigoratingly various Erskine collection has been on public view.
