Enrich your experience of the Hassall Collection: A Masterpiece Collection of Australian Art by joining three invited guest speakers, Ms Brenda L Croft, Dr David Hansen and Ms Ruth Waller.
We have invited two of our friends to share their perspective on a work of their choice from the Hassall Collection. Talks will be kicking off from 6pm. In case you haven’t previously met, I will tell you a little bit about their brilliant work.
Dr. David Hansen has spent more than 30 years as an art museum director, collection and exhibition curator and writer on Australian art. His art historical specializations include early 19th century painting and drawing (notably the work of John Glover and settler images of Aborigines), mid-20th century modernism, contemporary criticism and regional artists and galleries. Dr. Hansen has curated more than 80 exhibitions, including the Bicentennial non-State art galleries touring show The Face of Australia (1988), the site-specific Fifth Australian Sculpture Triennial (1993), and the important colonial monograph John Glover and the Colonial Picturesque. Since 2014 Dr. Hansen has been Associate Professor in the Centre for Art History and Art Theory at the Australian National University, Canberra.
Ms Ruth Waller grew up in Sydney and studied at Alexander Mackie CAE in the seventies. She taught at the ANU School of Art & Design from 1990 and was Head of Painting from 2006 – 2018. She exhibited with Watters Gallery, Sydney from 1981 and is represented by Nancy Sever Gallery in Canberra. In 2009 she was awarded the ANU Vice Chancellor’s Award for Supervision. The Canberra Museum & Gallery featured a thirty-year survey of her work in 2010. Ruth is an Associate Professor of the ANU.
