PETER MALONEY
MISSING IN ACTION
You and your guest are cordially invited to the opening of the exhibition officially launched by
Associate Professor Ruth Waller, Head of Painting, ANU School of Art & Design
THURSDAY 12 April • 6 pm
With special performance co-ordinated by Gus McGrath
Since the early 1980’s Peter Maloney has produced a vast body of works on paper. Very few of these have ever been exhibited.
This survey will be a “revelation” and “the tip of the iceberg” according to exhibition’s curators Tony Oates and Terence Maloon. Lyrical, improvisatory, diaristic, sometimes devastating in their emotional honesty, Maloney skirts and skirmishes with chaos and discovers a clarity and a coherence that never feels pressured. A sure-footed improvisor who embraces risk, Maloney is a live-wire graphic artist of extraordinary accomplishment.
Peter Maloney was a full time lecturer in Painting at the ANU School of Art and Design from 2006 to 2013. He remains advisor on some post graduate panels and is a regular visitor to the Workshop
His work is included in significant public and private collections, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Canberra Museum and Art Gallery and Newcastle Region Art Gallery. He was represented by Wessel & O’Connor New York City and has shown nationally and internationally in group and solo exhibitions.
