Idris Murphy has offered to initiate a benefit sale for the Drill Hall Gallery which will give us a new flexibility in controlling lighting levels in the main gallery. While we revel in the ideal mix of artificial light and daylight, we are not able to black out the clerestory windows – which is a prerequisite for video installations and loans from museums of works on paper.
Idris Murphy has generously put at our disposal 81 works on paper, all of them A4 size (21 x 30cm). They can be purchased for $2200 each. Our last refurbishment of the gallery took place in 2016 when the interior was streamlined, removing unsightly accretions, insulating the roof and walls and installing state of the art climate control to the highest museum standard. The superb LED lights were the result of donations by artists whose works were sold in a benefit auction held by Bonham’s in Sydney.
This forthcoming modification of the gallery will allow far greater flexibility and versatility in the use of our main exhibiting area. We are extremely grateful to Idris for kick starting our latest renovation.
