Friends are invited to join us on a field trip to Goulburn Regional Gallery to view three solo exhibitions with a connection to the ANU.
after/image presents new work from artist, curator and ANU Professor, Brenda L Croft. Working with sites in the Goulburn Mulwaree region with a direct connection to her family history, Croft offers a story of connection and distance, memory and loss over time.
In Re:Generation artist Prue Hazelgrove (ANU School of Art and Design alumnus) uses the 19th Century wet plate photographic process collodion to represent stories erased from conventional narratives, asking viewers to consider their biases and beliefs. The collodion process fixes images to glass and metal, resulting in mirror images.
Conduit presents the work of another ANU School of Art and Design alumnus. Here, Bridget Baskerville examines the relationship between human bodies, water bodies and extractive industries. Conduit features copper and tinned copper strips, installed over the Queen River in Queenstown, Lutruwita/Tasmania, polluted due to tailings and runoff from the Mount Lyell Copper Mine. Submerged and corroded, the copper strips are etched with fine details, reflecting the agency of water.
For those who are inclined, join us at 12.30pm for lunch at local cafe ‘Roses’ before the gallery tour – 59 Verner St, Goulburn NSW 2580.
While we cannot provide transport we are happy to facilitate car pooling. If you have room in your car for another Friend, or you need a ride, let us know and we can put you in touch with each other – dhg@anu.edu.au
