Over the last decade, the University Art Collection has been substantially enriched with gifts, bequests and purchases.

Recent benefactions (2017) include a spectacular array of large-scale contemporary paintings and sculptures given by James and Jacqui Erskine; a phenomenally valuable painting by the Chinese artist Zhang Peili Flying Machine (1994) donated by Lois Conor; a gift of personally significant and inspirational works coming from the household of Rosalie and Ben Gascoigne, donated by their children; a collection of bark paintings given by the eminent scholar Jon Altman, plus gifts given directly by artists such as Brian Blanchflower, Aida Tomescu, John Nixon, Allan Mitelman, Salvatore Zofrea, Philip Spelman and others.

The Collection also traced the history of the ANU School of Art and Design, in 2017 celebrating its fortieth year, with a selection of works by outstanding graduating students.
