For our next Friends’ Night, on March 27, Deborah Hart, senior curator of Australian painting and sculpture after 1920 at the National Gallery of Australia, will be launching a new monograph about Roy Jackson. The book appears under the imprimatur of Drill Hall Gallery Publishing.
Drill Hall Gallery director Terence Maloon wrote the introduction and provided a large amount of interview material with the artist, which is spread throughout the book. Contributions from fellow artists (John Peart, Elisabeth Cummings, Paul Selwood), friends and partners round-out this richly illustrated publication which gives a vivid characterisation of Jackson and his work.
Please come and help us celebrate this event.
The book was launched in Sydney in conjunction with the Roy Jackson retrospective exhibition at the S.H. Ervin Gallery on Observatory Hill (closes 12 April). Drill Hall Gallery visitors may remember a previous incarnation of this exhibition in September 2013. The new version contains several important works that were not featured in the Canberra show: all three paintings from Jackson’s momentous Clinamen series can be seen together for the first time. Deborah Hart did the honours of opening the exhibition and launching the new monograph in Sydney. She will be doing the honours again in Canberra for the book launch on March 27.
