Helen Fuller ceramics now on show in Gallery 2 at the Drill Hall.
The basic Adelaide home-grown Bennett’s terracotta filtered clay and the common four oxides form my simple means. With a long-held fascination with fossils, I embellish the clay forms with pressed Australian leaf litter and found material to pattern the surfaces. Sometimes I use underglazes to pull the form into shape. I have refrained from glazing pots, as I prefer the absorbent matte surface which is more like a painting surface. The nearest I have come to a glaze process is with some recent wood-fired pots where the chemistry of fire, clay and chance created an inadvertent, poetic ‘glaze’.
