Hassall Collection Catalogue Now Available

“When we chose the works for this exhibition at the Drill Hall, Tony Oates and I wanted the selection to acknowledge the social and cultural engagement of the collector, Geoffrey Hassall, not just his aesthetic acumen. For us, the collection forms a sort of imaginary utopia, a model of community where all the works are in a accord and all the artists occupy a level playing-field. Indigenous and non-Indigenous works are invited into a conversation of equals.”

This catalogue documents a selection of works from the collection of Geoffrey Hassall exhibited at the Drill Hall Gallery from 22 February to 14 April in 2019. Featuring high quality images and an insightful dialogue between Quentin Sprauge and Drill Hall Gallery Director Terence Maloon, “…A New Vision of the World,’ the catalogue presents the animated and compelling conversation that springs up between works by Ralph Balson and Nyapanyapan Yunupingu; Ian Fairweather, Tony Tuckson, Emily Kame Kngwarreye and George Tjungurrayi; between Robert Klippel, Leo Loomans and Michael Buzacott; between Tiger Palpatja and Nonggirrnga Marawili.
