Ciara O’Brien

Ciara O’Brien’s contribution to the exhibition comes from a series of photographs she took in 2016 on the isle of Lesbos (or Lesvos), off the coast of Turkey. The Lifejacket Graveyard was photographed while she was working on Lesbos as a volunteer for a Swedish humanitarian aid organisation, Lighthouse Relief. Lesbos is a landfall for hundreds of thousands of refugees – most of them originating in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, three nation-states which have brought to the brink of ruin by civil wars stoked-up by western intervention
